After two years of silence, we can hold the new album of Quimby in our hands and we can calmly respire: a real masterpiece was born! The group has created the mellowest, clearest music album of its history, on which we can also find some staggering musical solutions.
The group went into studio in september to make their 8th record. Among the 17 songs of this manifold album, we can find truly popular hits, some lyric, slow numbers, a waltz, a blues, latin rhythms, but naturally we can’t miss the harder ones either! Most of the songs were composed by Tibor Kiss, the singer-leader of the band, also figures as co-author Szilárd Balanyi (keyboard), Ferenc Mikuli (bass) and Ferenc Gerdesits (drums). Livius Varga is unbeatable as far as rap and percussions are concerned, while József Kárpáti (Dodi)’s trumpet is blaring sometimes cheerfully, sometimes tantalizingly.
The lyrics are composed of verses suggesting surrealist, poetic, rich imagination. Nevertheless, we shouldn’t forget to listen to the message and musical humour hiding between the lines.
7 songs from the album can be heard in the theater in Quimby’s interpretation in Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night or What You Will, in an adaptation of the theater piece in a modern approach.
